I woke up one day and it occurred to me that I am not a youngster anymore if fact life is probably at least half over. If that is not "Middle Age" then I don't know what else to call it.  I think a lot of my friends can relate to this song. Here's to you!

H. Vaughan (hopartmusicBMI)

LYRIC SHEET

Rich Rittenhouse on Harmonica. Hoppie on Guitar, Bass, Hand Drums, & all Vocals. Recorded on the Tascam 2488 hard disk recorder.

I tried to create a visual of traveling through the South with my sweety in an old raggedy ford. No animals were harmed in the recording of this song.

H. Vaughan (hopartmusicBMI)

LYRIC SHEET

Michael McGraw on Drums & Flute. Al Coffee on Fiddle. Hoppie on Guitar & Upright Bass. Recorded at M. McGraw's house on his Roland VS 1880.

Real live Cicadas (locust or grasshoppers) recorded from SC. Millie the Manchester Terrier we inherited from Polly Knighton's passing, chimes in on the end. I was born Union, SC in the upstate piedmont area. A place that time never seems to change. Undeserving known for the fact that a woman locked her children in a car and let it roll into a lake. Blamed it on a carjacker. Eventually authorities discovered that she just didn't want the responsibility of raising her kids. A Terrible tragedy.

6.  DIXIE CUP  3:38  written 8/26/97

H. Vaughan (hopartmusicBMI)

LYRIC SHEET

Tom Hearn on Drums. Hoppie on Guitar, Bass & all Vocals. James Pace on Organ.  Recorded on the Tascam 2488 hard disk recorder.

When I was growing up in the CSRA (Central Savannah River Area) everyday going to school I would pass the Lilly Tulip paper cup factory. On the front of this building was what seemed to be a 90 million foot tall Dixie Cup. I would fantasize the cup was filled with orange soda and we would swim in it on a steamy hot Georgia summer day. Well the cup really was only 2 or 3 stories high and later on in life again I fantasized about falling in love up on top of the cup. What a cool idea. I did fall in love back there in the CSRA but not up on Dixie Cup.

7.  THESE OTHER ARMS  7:01  written 2/12/96

Originally recorded @ Jeff & Liz Bowles Craig Creek cabin near Eagle Rock, VA 2004 for The Fat Daddy Band CD project.  For 2 weekends we camped out at the cabin and recorded tracks for a Fat Daddy Band project that never came to fruition.  Recorded on the Tascam 2488 hard disk recorder.

This song is about the temptation that is always out there. Love trumps all.

H. Vaughan (hopartmusicBMI)

LYRIC SHEET

Robert Harper Vaughan on Drums. Hoppie on Guitar, Bass, Synth Strings & all Vocals.  Recorded on the Tascam 2488 hard disk recorder.

There are 2 songs on this CD that deal with death and they are both in 3/4 time signature.

Polly Knighton, my mother in law, of Eclectic, AL. was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1997. After 20 years of marriage to her daughter, she finally thought I was ok. I just wanted her to know that I could do anything for her.

"I Am The Man" We miss you Polly.

9.  ALL UP IN IT  4:09  written 1/16/07

H. Vaughan (hopartmusicBMI)

LYRIC SHEET

Robert Harper Vaughan on Drums. Hoppie on Guitar, Bass & Keyboards.

Recorded on the Tascam 2488 hard disk recorder.

This song started as an experiment just goofing around testing out recording technics. No deep lyrical meaning in this one, just fun and groovin'.

10.  BAD YEAR  4:10  written 8/30/02

H. Vaughan (hopartmusicBMI)

LYRIC SHEET

Jonathan
Barker on Piano & Synth. Hoppie on Guitar, Bass & all Vocals.

Recorded on the Roland VS880EX  hard disk recorder.

My Buddy Rick Montgomery was diagnosed with cancer in and died in 2002. That along with the 911 tragedy 2001 proved to be a very bad year. I originally tried to tie these 2 events into the lyric but it just didn't turn out that way in the end. Rick played guitar in my first traveling club band. Hollowpoint. We stayed in contact via snail mail for years. We didn't really like email when it came along, I think we liked writing letters to each other. This song for Rick's family seems like a good ender to my cd. See you down the road Rick.

A FEW SAMPLES FROM HOPPIE SONGS 2008

Jonathan Barker Keyboards Jonathan hails from Staunton, VA  plays in Ministers of Soul and solo around Roanoke. I met Jonathan 8 or 9 years ago and we have been playing gigs and collaborating music ever since. Jonathan writes and has a CD for sale through CD Baby. Jonathan grew up with a piano in his house and his earliest exposure was his mother playing classical and original material in the living room.  He would later begin lessons at the age of 8 and continue with them through his first year at college.  In 1989, he joined the Electric Woodshed who enjoyed regional success playing the college circuit.  In 1994, he moved to Roanoke and soon fell into the music scene which allowed him to explore his talents to a greater extent.  In 2002, he released his first solo effort titled “Jonathan.”  For several years, he was seen around the region playing in a duet pegged The Other White Meat (aka Two Dudes). He has played with such acts as Bo Diddley, Mac Gayden, Oceana Gayden, and shared the stage with countless other national acts.  Currently, he plays with the Ministers of Soul and is working on his second CD.
